Week 7: Surrendering Money, Security, and Family Patterns
Synopsis
Dr. Francis Myles turns the focus toward finances in his teaching on “money altars.” The official module connects finances with idols, family bloodlines, righteous altars, and the biblical account of Gideon tearing down an altar before establishing one that honored God. Myles' teaching challenges readers to consider whether financial attitudes and struggles may reflect deeper questions about trust, security, inheritance, and the patterns learned within families (Francis Myles International).
Money itself is not the enemy. The deeper question is what place it holds in our heart. Do we believe money is our security? Does having more make us feel valuable? Does fear of losing it control us? Do we spend to impress, soothe pain, or prove something? Or do we recognize every resource as something God has entrusted to us? When Christ becomes Lord of our finances, money can return to its proper place, as a tool rather than a master.
This week also gives us an opportunity to consider the financial habits that have traveled through our families. Perhaps we grew up around fear, scarcity thinking, overspending, secrecy, debt, greed, or financial instability. We do not have to repeat everything we inherited. With God's help, one generation can make different choices. We can establish a new legacy of wisdom, generosity, contentment, honesty, stewardship, and trust in God as our source.
Key Scripture: Judges 6:26
Reflection Question: What belief or financial habit from my family history do I need to surrender so that a healthier, God-honoring legacy can begin with me?
Prayer: Jesus, I surrender my finances and my sense of security to You. Reveal any fear, pride, greed, or unhealthy family pattern that influences how I handle money. Teach me to be wise, content, generous, and faithful with everything You place in my hands. Let a new legacy of godly stewardship begin in me. Amen.
